KLEIMAN EARNS 3RD AND FINAL NORM – CONGRATULATIONS TO TENNESSEE’S OWN IM JAKE KLEIMAN!

Chicago, Illinois – FM Jake Kleiman, from Memphis, Tennessee, fresh off his 2nd IM norm at the Philadelphia Open tore apart his opponents at the Chicago Open.  Here is how he did it:

3rd round:  Won against WIM Evelyn Monayo (Ecuador) (2122)

Jake will be one of five instructors at the Mid-South Chess Camp (GM Alex Stripunsky, GM Josh Friedel, WIM Alisa Melekhina, FM Jake Kleiman, and Eve Litvak as they prepare to welcome U.S. Champion GM Hikaru Nakamura on June 13-18 to the premier chess camp in the country!

2010 TENNESSEE STATE PRIMARY CHAMPION

Shaun proudly shows off his first place trophy

Shaun is a second grader who won the 2010 TN Scholastic Primary K-3 Division on February 13.  Shaun was introduced to chess by his grandfather and older brother and as a Kindergartener joined the chess club at his school, St. George’s Independent School.  He won his very first tournament in November 2008 and has been enthusiastically involved ever since with a current rating of 1365. In 2009 he placed sixth at the SuperNationals in the K-1 division (scoring 6.0) and eighth at National Scholastic Grade Championships (2nd grade) in Dallas.   He has been coached by Brian Vogt, Dale Flickinger and Mike Klein at summer camp.  When he is not playing chess, he enjoys water skiing, basketball, tennis and swimming.

Arun Jambulapati is a 6th grader at Cordova Middle School, Cordova, TN. He was introduced to chess by his dad at 5-years and ever since he is hooked to it. He studied chess strategy, tactics, puzzles, etc. with FM Jake Kleiman, GM Alex Stripunsky, GM Yudasin, and others. Arun plays piano and in his school band he plays trombone. He is also enrolled at University of Memphis, where he is pursuing a science degree. He likes to travel and goes on bike rides with his family.

Jason is a seventh grader at Farragut Middle School , Knoxville . When he was 6-year-old, he was introduced to chess by the Microsoft Board Games software. He has won the Region 1 tournament three times, and this is his first time winning the state tournament. He was the captain of the Farragut Intermediate School chess team which won the state championship in 2008. His teacher is chess master Leonard Dickerson. His hobbies are reading, playing computer games, playing soccer, and fishing.

Much talented George Woodbury walks away with his second place and scholarship to Tennessee Tech!

George Woodbury III is a junior at Lausanne School in Memphis where he is an active and successful member of its various sports teams. He is also is an All- West Band Member and Memphis Youth Symphony Member playing the French horn. George maintains academic excellence in his studies which includes a heavy load  of Advanced Placement classes. Last, but not least in George’s extracurricular activities, is his study of chess with Mid-South Chess with GM Alex Stripunsky and FM Jake Kleiman.
